Vintage stainless steel ship's compass. The casing is made of stainless steel, and the gimbal-mounted compass mechanism is made of brass. Unfortunately, the oil lamp in the casing to the right of the compass is missing. The number BB 7181 is stamped on the top, which likely marks the boat from which it originated.
